💵 ~$190
Day 2 · Thursday, 29 October
- 08:00 Early start for the Balos Lagoon boat from Kissamos port (check the schedule the night before, as sailings thin out in late October).
- 10:00 Cruise to Gramvousa island; swim in the turquoise lagoon and walk the short trail to the Venetian fortress.
- 13:30 Packed lunch or a seafood meal on the boat's return route.
- 16:00 Drive back to Chania with a stop at a viewpoint over the Kissamos coastline.
- 19:30 Dinner in the old town and an early night.
🍽️ Grilled octopus with fresh lemon at a seaside taverna in Kissamos.
💵 ~$240
Day 3 · Friday, 30 October
- 08:00 Drive south along the coast to Rethymno, about 1 hour 30 minutes, and stop at a village bakery on the way.
- 10:30 Explore the Venetian and Ottoman lanes of Rethymno Old Town and the harbour fortress.
- 13:30 Lunch with local cheeses and cured meats, then continue to the Libyan Sea coast.
- 16:00 Hike the palm-lined trail to Preveli Beach and the Kourtaliotiko river gorge (wear sturdy shoes; allow about 45 minutes each way).
- 19:00 Return to Chania by car and have a late dinner.
🍽️ Gamopilafo (wedding pilaf with lamb or chicken) or a rustic Cretan mezze in Rethymno.
💵 ~$230
Day 4 · Saturday, 31 October
- 08:00 Slow breakfast at a café with views over the harbour.
- 09:30 Walk or take a short taxi ride to Agii Apostoloi beach, a quiet pebble cove with clear water.
- 12:00 Visit the Archaeological Museum of Chania or a local olive oil producer, depending on your interest.
- 14:30 Last lunch and a final coffee in the old town.
- 17:00 Transfer to Chania Airport for your flight home, allowing extra time for the check-in process.
🍽️ Cretan rusks with tomato and olive oil for breakfast, then a final glass of local raki.
💵 ~$150
First-timer tips
- Carry cash (euros) for smaller tavernas, bakeries and some market stalls.
- Late October is cooler and windier; bring layers, and expect sea swimming to be brisk.
- Rent a car for the day trips; roads are winding, so drive carefully and fill up before rural stretches.
- Book the Balos boat tickets online a day ahead, since late-season departures can be cancelled in bad weather.
- Greek meals are slow: order several small plates to share and ask for tap water (nero) if you want it with your meal.
